Moving On Up....
Damn it's springtime already! Anyways, in this post I'm going to give you all the game on how to go from tier 1 (help desk) or tier 2 (desktop support) to System Administrator aka GATEWAY. Why do I call the System Administrator role the gateway? Because it's the role that changed my life, both professionally & financially. In this role you usually have god-like access (and hopefully understanding) of the Windows client/server infrastructure. You can usually do anything. Reset passwords, create/delete accounts, grant access to resources, create computers, printers, etc. In this role I realized I could take this tech thing to the moon. Like me personally. Not just the idea that tech is everywhere. The idea that "Peter, YOU can do this!! You can download this exact software (trial versions of course, Bill Gates ain't stupid!) and build this environment at home and learn to do the exact same stuff that our engineers do for $100k-$200k/year." Between cheap hardware costs, and broadband internet, the world is at your fingertips. It does however take time. Downloading the files, watching the videos and reading the documents. LOTS of videos. Eight videos of scraight HEAT. No more than 3hrs of video, but unlimited tech knowledge.
Well here it is. Some will say it's just a link to my curated YouTube playlist (it is).
